What tanks can be made from paper and cardboard?

On the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, I want to make a unique gift with my own hands. A great idea would be to make a modular origami tank.

This type of craft is a little easier than making a figurine from one sheet of paper. However, it is much more voluminous, given the large number of components of each module.

Modular origami

The meaning of modular origami consists of several modules that need to be connected to each other to form a solid figure. The advantage of this method is its relative ease; in fact, all modules consist of folded triangles that form different shapes. All you need to collect:

  • Caterpillars and tracks
  • Body
  • Tower and cannon

Each of the elements is assembled from a large number of triangles made of paper. This allows you to assemble a craft of virtually any size; you can adjust the size of the modules as desired.

The modules are fastened together using glue. The tower must be installed on a pencil or pen, previously fixed vertically in the body. This will make the tower movable.

Regular paper tank

For beginning designers, you should start with the simplest model of a tank. To create a model, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  1. Any sheet of A4 paper;
  2. Ruler or other measuring tool;
  3. Scissors;
  4. The pencil is simple;
  5. Paints/markers/colored pencils;
  6. Paper glue.

Having prepared the materials, we begin making the model. The model is created as follows:

  1. Divide the paper into the following parts, the main part of the sheet is 27 x 5 cm, the small part is 5 x 3 cm;
  2. Bend the corner of the main part from the smallest side, then straighten it;
  3. Perform step 2 for the opposite corner;
  4. It is necessary to fold the corner so that it turns out to be a multi-layer triangle resembling the shape of the letter “X”;
  5. For the second side of the main part, perform the same operations;
  6. Fold the top corners in half again upwards to form a diamond;
  7. For the other side, fold the top corners inward, also getting a rhombus;
  8. Place the product with its wide side facing you, and perform the operation of connecting opposite rhombuses, forming an arc;
  9. The connecting rhombuses form a so-called tower. To make a cannon, you need to take a small piece of paper and roll it into a tube and insert it into the tower;
  10. By bending the edges you can get tracks.

From sheet A4

Let's look at how to make an origami tank from one A4 sheet. Initially, you need to fold it in half, then unfold it and bend the sheet a quarter along the fold on one side. The same thing needs to be done on the other side.

Next, on one side you need to bend the corners towards the center, like an airplane. After the corners are bent, you need to bend each side of the sheet, starting from the corners towards the center to the fold line.

After this, the bent sides need to be bent halfway in the opposite direction, you should get something like an accordion. Next, you need to turn the workpiece over and bend it a little more than halfway. After this, you need to bend the other side towards the bent side. The corners need to be tucked under the projections.

This will create a tank body. After this, you need to carefully straighten the tracks with pliers. To make a barrel, you need to take a thin wooden stick, wrap paper around it, securing its edges so that it does not unwind. After this, it needs to be removed from the stick and cut to size for the tank.

The finished barrel must be tucked into the triangle located on the top of the figure.

Paper heavy tank KV-1

Let's consider creating a more complex tank model.

Which will be much more difficult to do. Naturally, creating such a tank will take longer. However, the result will definitely please you with its beauty and similarity to the original.

There are many drawings of ready-made models on the Internet. Making a model of the KV-1 tank will take a huge amount of time. You also need to have a good supply of time, including patience, attentiveness and, of course, accuracy.

Models this complex are usually made by people who already have some experience in paper crafts.

You need to take a sheet of A4 paper, usually take the same color in which the finished model will be made. Typically, colors for a tank are taken that correspond to the camouflage of military equipment, which is selected based on the area of use. A sheet of paper needs to be folded so as to get 32 uniform small squares, then cut them along the fold lines.

Fold one of the resulting squares into two parts, then bend it, and direct the upper corners to the fold line, obtaining a small triangle. The remaining sides need to be bent and then folded in half.

Perform such operations with all other squares, which will be the main material for creating the tank. This creation technology can be suitable for many models of heavy equipment.

A tank of this model contains about 5 thousand parts. As a rule, these details are prepared in advance, but no one forbids them to be made during the manufacturing process of the model. Basic assembly operations are performed from modeling the body. Model parts that are a form that allows you to nest inside each other. Trying to assemble the subassemblies very carefully and without damaging the parts, resulting in a body part consisting of 14 parts.

Performing such operations will help achieve a good level of quality and uniqueness of the tank. Tank elements are assembled by choice.

Making paper tanks is not a difficult task, as it might seem at first glance.

Materials

When creating origami, it is not necessary to use thin or regular A4 paper. The choice of suitable material depends on what kind of craft you want to make.

  • Learning to fold a cat out of paper using the origami technique: an easy master class + review of diagrams

If you plan to attach something additional to it and paint it, then it is best to use thick paper like Whatman paper. Making an origami paper tank with your own hands from whatman paper is much easier due to the thicker paper. In addition, such figures look more believable.

The photo of the origami tank shows that sometimes the figures create entire exhibitions with the participation of other elements. You can recreate historical events involving a tank from scrap materials.

Cardboard master class

Paper cardboard allows you to make durable crafts. They will not bend as quickly as the previous ones. And you can even play with them.

There are two master classes before you.

First option.

You need to take corrugated cardboard, it is sold in any office supply store. Or remove the top layer from the cardboard box, exposing the stiffening ribs.

We make round rolls from thin strips.

We connect them to a rectangular base.

We twist the cabin on top.

We make a barrel and decorate the craft with flags.

This beauty is made from cardboard.

Option 2.

Blue ribbons will be used for roller wheels, the cabin and decoration. Green ones are for the caterpillars themselves.

We roll the tracks from 4 spherical rolls. We take two strips of the same size. The next two need to be taken three centimeters less.

We tie them with ribbon to hold the rolls together.

We make the base for the cabin and tracks.

To prevent them from unraveling, we glue them with PVA glue.

Let's make the remaining details.

Entire compositions are created and sent to exhibitions.

I also suggest watching a video that shows step by step the creation of a tank.

All models can be modified to your liking.

Reconstruction of events

If desired, you can create a miniature copy of events that actually took place during a certain period of time with the participation of a tank. A large surface, preferably wood, is used as a base; it is very durable and reliable.
