Winter trees made from branches
Tree branches are not difficult to find in your garden. It’s better to prepare this material in advance when you do autumn or spring pruning of trees. Select branches with a large number of branches - with them the Christmas composition will be more elegant.
If large branches are used, they can represent trees. You may be able to install them without fastening (distance between the floor and ceiling), but if this is not possible, you will have to make a platform base from pieces of board. Paint the branches with any white paint that is suitable for wood. Such “winter trees” can be preserved until the next holiday. In general, you can use them for years.
Bunches of thin branches can be installed in tall vases. Secure them with pebbles to prevent them from falling apart. If possible, make lighting from a garland, preferably LED lighting.
A toy deer, as an addition to such a composition, will come in handy.

The symbol of 2021 is the Ox - be sure to use the figurine of this animal in your arrangement. Such a talisman will protect the house from negativity and bad people throughout the whole year.
Made from natural spruce
The most popular New Year's composition for 2021 is considered to be an installation of pine needles and Christmas tree decorations. The workflow takes very little time, and the low degree of complexity makes this option accessible even to beginners.
We prepare everything you need:
- live spruce branches - 3 pieces;
- pruner;
- stationery knife;
- sponge (oasis);
- base - a bowl or pot made of ceramic or plastic;
- water;
- candle;
- acrylic outline.
We cut out a blank from the oasis in the shape of a bowl, and we need to make protrusions of 3 cm along its entire circumference. Place the base in a container of water so that the sponge absorbs the required amount of water. If necessary, water must be added, as a lot of liquid is absorbed.
Now you need to fill the volume of the bowl as tightly as possible with the oasis - put it on top and press down. The oasis gradually lowers, we cut off the excess pieces with a stationery knife and put them aside - they will be needed later. The visible part of the sponge in the bowl is 4-5 cm.
We tightly fill the voids with the remains of the base, insert the candle in the center so that it touches the bottom.
Using pruning shears, we cut coniferous branches into pieces of three sizes for the future three tiers of the installation:
- large (bottom row) – 10 pcs.;
- medium – 20 pcs.;
- small (top) – 30 pcs.
The size and number of branches depends on how large the craft is planned to be made. Typically, the approximate parameters of the finished craft are as follows: diameter – 30-50 cm, height – 25-35 cm.
For convenience in further work, arrange the material on the workbench according to type, remove the needles at the ends and sharpen them.
We assemble from the bottom up - first we insert large branches around the perimeter of the base, forming a round shape.
Now we make the second row of branches, then fill the top - here we start working from the center (candle). We insert the branches at different angles so that the overall shape of the craft resembles a Christmas tree (cone).
To give the desired shape, you can cut off the protruding branches with pruning shears.
We decorate with toys and decorative elements. You can apply the desired design to the candle using an outline.

From the cones
One of the popular options for DIY New Year's compositions are hanging arrangements in flowerpots, baskets or other forms. They can ideally combine various materials and accessories, use fresh flowers, and also complement them with the symbol of 2021.
Preparing the material:
- foam ball (diameter 12-15 cm);
- decorative tape (length 100 cm);
- cones;
- acrylic paint;
- wire cutters;
- heat gun and glue sticks for it;
- spruce branches;
- berries for decoration.
Pre-paint the cones with paint and leave to dry. You can use burlap, as in the photo above, or choose decorative braid.
When choosing a ball with a larger diameter than that indicated in the master class, it is worth considering that the consumption of cones will also increase.
We fold the ribbon in half, retreat about 10 cm and tie a knot - we get a loop for hanging the craft. Now we place a foam ball under the loop and tie it with ribbon, making a tight knot and a bow under it. The contact points between the tape and the foam can be additionally glued with a heat gun or tape.
Using glue, we attach the cones to the foam over the entire surface of the ball.
We clean the tips of the spruce branches from needles and fill the voids between the cones with them. We also add decorative berries on wire.
After hanging the craft, you can optionally adjust the length of the hanging ribbon - cut the ends at an angle or tie another turn of the bow.
Made of wood
In the spring, when pruning trees in your country house or in the garden of a country house, do not rush to throw away the branches - lay them out in a well-ventilated area and dry them. On New Year's Eve, you can make interesting arrangements from them or even use them instead of a traditional New Year's tree.
The branches can be painted with paint in balloons or acrylic paints, placed in vases in the form of a bouquet, or decorated with Christmas tree decorations. The branches placed on the wall of the house look incredible.
Tree branches in transparent glass vases or unusually shaped containers look impressive and elegant.
From nuts
Traditionally, on New Year and Christmas, the front door of the house is decorated with a festive wreath; it can also be used as a central table installation.
You should prepare:
- assorted nuts – walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds;
- base-circle with a diameter of 30 cm;
- multi-colored Christmas tree decorations;
- silver paint;
- heat gun.
- Glue the candle stands onto the base.
- Using hot glue, fix the nuts on the circle.
- We use all types of nuts to make the wreath uniform.
- We leave some space around the stands for containers with candles.
If dried traces of glue are visible on the wreath, turn on the hair dryer - hot air will easily melt them.
After the glue has dried, use silver spray paint. Do this manipulation outdoors!
- Prepare Christmas tree decorations.
- Remove the caps.
- Fix the balls in any shape with glue.
Take the bowls.
Place them on the wreath along with the candles.
From Christmas tree toys and garlands
Vases with burning garlands and Christmas balls look incredibly magical and festive. This installation can be used as interior decoration or for additional lighting on a winter evening. It is advisable to use LED garlands - they are conveniently placed in a container.
You can make a frame for a Christmas wreath from an unnecessary clothes hanger or ordinary wire. The process is quite simple: bend the metal in the shape of a circle, string Christmas tree balls one by one and decorate to taste. For work, choose sets of unbreakable plastic toys - this way you will protect the craft from accidental damage and beating.
From tangerines
New Year and tangerines are inseparable concepts. The aroma of citrus fruits in the apartment will give you a good mood and complement the holiday atmosphere.
When assembling gift baskets or boxes, a foam base or a floral oasis is placed at the bottom. Tangerines are pierced with bamboo picnic skewers and placed in the base. Coniferous branches are sharpened with a knife and placed in a basket in the same way. Citrus fruits tied with ribbons, as well as carnations decorated with stars or sprinkled with artificial snow look elegant and interesting. Gingerbread, cinnamon sticks, candies and chocolates make great additions to a winter basket.
From polymer clay
To work with such material, the master needs certain skills and abilities. These handmade products are so amazing and realistic that they can easily be mistaken for real fresh flowers.
New Year's wall decorations
Cut squares and rectangles from foam, wood, or other materials. Now they need to be wrapped in elegant wrapping paper and decorated with bows. It is better to use red and green Christmas colors.
You can attach a Santa Claus or Santa Claus hat to a door or wall, which is basically the same thing. Inside this stylized “vase” we place twigs, flowers, and other decorations.

New Year's composition in a basket
Using jute threads and glue you can create very cute decorative balls! And to make them look even brighter, add a garland inside each ball, as well as pine cones, herbarium, tinsel or other surroundings at your discretion.
So, you will need:
- a small basket or wicker plate for fruit;
- jute thread;
- glue;
- balloons (5 pcs.);
- vegetable oil;
- garland;
- needle or toothpick;
- scissors;
- wide brush;
- additional decor at your discretion.
Start by inflating the balloons to the size you want for your craft.
Then grease them with oil to prevent the thread from sticking to the surface.
Cut one large thread for all five balls. You will need about 30 meters.
Dip the thread into glue so that it is well distributed along its entire length.
Cut the thread into 5 pieces and wrap them around each inflated balloon. There are no special nuances here, leave only small holes so that you can thread the garland through them.
Tabletop New Year's compositions
It’s easy to make a cone composition:
- tie spruce branches into a bundle;
- Place some material in a large bowl (for example, unripe apples) or even crumpled paper;
- turn a bunch of branches over onto a hill;
- install a top from a twig;
- decorate with small decorations.
