Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis thought that durable canvas, highly resistant to wear and tear, would be a good material for sewing robes. At that time, only trousers dyed brown were made from denim. The fabric consists of two types of cotton threads:

Warp threads. They give strength to the fabric. They are painted white, which you will see when you turn the product inside out.
Weft threads. They form the basis of the fabric and are colored blue.
