White cardigans with knitting needles - 11 models with diagrams and descriptions

A summer cardigan made of fine yarn can become a very cozy and delicate accessory in your wardrobe. Knitting an openwork cardigan from thin yarn with knitting needles will not be difficult even for a beginner, if there are diagrams with descriptions and advice from experienced craftsmen on how to choose yarn and knitting needles. How to knit a cardigan, whether a simple cardigan with a light pattern or a complex pattern in relief, the recommendations below will help.

Choosing yarn and knitting needles for knitting a cardigan

Whatever yarn you choose, the item will be 100% exclusive!

In fact, the item can be knitted from any yarn. There is no single formula for choosing yarn. It all depends on the model, pattern and composition of the yarn. The more synthetic materials it contains – acrylic, polyamide, polyacrylic – the more wear-resistant the item will be.

Natural yarn tends to absorb more moisture, so it can become deformed and quickly lose the elasticity of the thread. But wool is safe for health, anti-allergenic and pleasant to the body.

Popular types of cardigan yarn:

  • Wool 49%, acrylic 51% The thread is not thin, of medium thickness, a product made from it will be quite warm. If you add a little openwork it will look very self-sufficient.
  • Mohair + wool 40%, acrylic 60% Thin thread, which will make an elegant, fluffy, lightweight cardigan.
  • Cotton 55% with acrylic 45% Thin thread. Ideal for summer and spring items. Gives a velvety, charming look.
  • Merino 50% with cotton 25% and silk 25% Natural. Volumetric. Looks great in embossed, voluminous patterns.
  • 100% wool Pure wool. The thread is of medium thickness, springs well, and is soft to the body. Patterns made from this wool will look very beautiful on a cardigan.

Knitted openwork cardigan

If you do not want to knit a completely openwork cardigan, knit only the back with openwork patterns. The openwork can be located only in the upper back or along the entire length.

The openwork pattern can be knitted in the round, in the form of a flower, or consist of individual motifs. Usually the openwork back is knitted separately and attached to the cardigan during its assembly.

Openwork knitted cardigan, work by Irene IVAS

Hello girls!!! I came across a cardigan on the Internet. To my taste it turned out to be very cute. Having searched my bins, I found threads of a similar color. The cardigan took a week to knit. And it blossomed twice more. Otherwise I would have contacted him faster.

The first time I decided that I was very big and added two extra rapports.

The second time, I decided to decrease it from the waist to the shoulder neck point - I didn’t like how the pattern lay down with the decreases. The result is that I loosened it from the neckline to the waist.

For the cardigan I needed:

Delicate pekhorka yarn, color 581 light emerald, 50g/165m, 50% cotton, 50% acrylic. In 2 threads. consumption 850 gr., knitting needles No. 4 (although maybe 4.5 - they are similar to me))) Size 44-46.

There is such a scheme on the Internet, but it is not entirely correct. In it, the number of loops in the repeat is 20. But it should be 21. I am posting the corrected diagram for you.

The cardigan was knitted with a solid placket without side ones. Sleeves are set-in, tapered at the bottom. I didn’t close the neckline - I left the required number of loops in each row on an additional knitting needle, and then tied it in the round to the desired height.

All the girls have a good mood, new ideas and implementations.

Women's knitted cardigan from Irene IVAS

Hello girls!!! Once upon a time a model caught my eye in the magazine “Verena”, I saved it in my favorites and periodically remembered it and looked at it.

At some point, I decided to knit strictly according to the description. Not so. The description didn’t suit me; something didn’t add up all the time. I sat down to figure it out myself. On top of that, I didn’t like the diagram published in the magazine at all with its notations. I don't like such schemes. Is it true. I personally find it uncomfortable. Some of the designations in the diagram were incorrect. I had to figure out the pattern... After drawing a diagram, I started.

The model is quite interesting, but something is not finalized. I personally don’t find the front neck very comfortable, but I’m used to feeling comfortable when wearing the product. Therefore, such a collar is not for everyone) In the photo in the magazine, the lady in the product is standing behind a bush and there is no way to see the model properly.

First - the description in the magazine, then my own, if it is useful to someone, I will be glad.

Now I’ll tell you how I knitted.

Yarn Alize Cotton Gold Plus 200m/100g, 55% cotton, 45% acrylic, knitting needles No. 4.5 (according to the description, 3.5 knitting needles are needed - if I knitted with 3.5 knitting needles it would really make a very thick coat), consumption 680- 690 grams. Color 487. Size 44-46.

Cardigan knitting patterns

We start knitting from the sleeves. We cast on 65 loops using a cross cast-on (rapport 3 times + 2 edge stitches). We knit from the 1st to the 74th row. in the 75th row we first close off 5 loops, then in the 76th row we also first close off 5 loops. We also knit the second sleeve. The sleeves are ready. Now you need to replace the two sleeves with additional knitting needles or fishing line and forget about them for now. By the way, it is better to close these loops in an elastic way, so that later it will be comfortable in the armhole area.

Cardigan body. In the description, the elastic band is knitted separately and then sewn on. I thought that I didn’t want to do this at all. I decided to knit everything together. For the body of the cardigan we need to dial rapport, elastic and patent edge 10 times on both sides. It turns out 3+11+210+11+3= 238 loops. We type in a cross pattern. We knit 3 loops of the patent edge, then 11 loops of the elastic (we start the elastic from the front loop) - we also finish 11 loops of the elastic, the patent edge of 3 loops. So, we knit from the 1st to 74th row, then we knit from the 25th to 74th row, then from the 25th to 75th row. In row 76 we begin casting off the stitches for the armhole. We knit 3 patent, 11 elastic, then knit 37 loops, close 12 loops for the armhole, then knit the back 112 (or 114 loops), again close 12 loops for the second armhole, knit 37 loops for the second front, 11 elastic loops, 3 patent edge. Close these armhole loops using an elastic method.

If I knit according to the description, I couldn’t get the pattern at all; I had to figure out how the pattern would match the diagram myself.

From this moment on, our sleeves are connected. It is necessary to re-take the sleeves onto the knitting needles with the cardigan in the places where the armholes were closed. We start knitting from row 201. The fronts, sleeves and back are knitted in this row. Between all these parts we connect the pattern of diagram B. In diagram B we have 13 loops. Let's distribute them. We knit 3 patent, 11 elastic, then 31 front loops according to pattern A, the remaining 6 front loops go to pattern B, then we knit 7 sleeve loops according to pattern B, the remaining sleeve loops up to the last 7 sleeve loops we knit according to pattern A, the outer 7 sleeve loops knit according to pattern B, 6 back loops using pattern A, etc. until the end. The wrong side according to the drawing. Accordingly, we knit the next row the same way. 203 row of pattern A, 3rd row of pattern B. so on until the end of pattern B. In row 211 we have 3 loops left on the armhole line. I knitted them together. We get it using the B bevel pattern a la raglan.

Recommendation. For larger sizes or fuller arms, pattern B is best knitted across 3 rows to lengthen the armhole line. Next, we knit the entire cardigan according to the main pattern A, since we knitted the entire pattern B. We knit up to 250 rows. Here it is possible and even necessary! According to the pattern, knit a couple of centimeters for the sprout - that is, in short rows. We don't count them. We count only complete rows. I honestly admit I was lazy. And I didn’t make a sprout - the description doesn’t say anything about it. And it must be done! In row 251 we begin to knit an elastic band. To do this, we knit 2 loops together in the cardigan pattern where they were according to the pattern to form a 1X1 elastic band. All. We knit an elastic band to the desired height of the collar. I got 268 rows. In the 269th row, the elastic band is closed. Recommendation - do not close the loops elastically - it is better to NOT close the loops elastically. The first time I closed the elastic elastically, I tied it.

By the way, in the description they write that we are knitting rows 174 and 175. I didn’t find such rows at all. Next we sew the seams of the sleeves and armholes. All. WTO. Thank you all for your attention!
