Snowflake for Beginners

To knit a snowflake, we used Pekhorka “Successful” yarn and hook No. 1.6. We start by obtaining eight air loops. Having closed the ring, we knit 15 single crochets. The steps to create the second row are shown in detail by the instructor. It is convenient to crochet with diagrams that indicate how many elements need to be completed.

Further advancement allows you to obtain a pattern that repeats for each of the six rays of the snowflake. After completing the knitting, the snowflake must be starched so that it holds its shape well. You can decorate the Christmas tree with snowflakes.

How to crochet snowflakes, ideas from the Internet

Simple crochet snowflakes, master class!

These snowflakes look great on a Christmas tree, in a doorway, or can be used as decoration for curtains or furniture (I glue them with double-sided tape). Knitting snowflakes is not difficult, the main thing is to feel the principle, and you yourself will be able to come up with a huge number of new options.

In the meantime, I’ll present two snowflakes (in the title photo), I’m planning more. These are “quick” snowflakes and are very easy to knit (especially the small ones).

Recommendations for choosing yarn

I prefer to knit from fairly thick and stiff yarn - acrylic or wool blend. The hook is usually 1.4 - 2.0. I don’t like snowflakes made of cotton thread; they all seem like napkins to me. And made from acrylic or hard wool mixture, they hold their shape well (it’s still advisable to starch them later) and “fluff” a little, which gives a natural look to the snowflake and looks very beautiful in the light. But you can choose the threads according to your taste.

Master class snowflake crochet from shiny threads

When I saw these threads, I immediately realized that snowflakes from them would turn out like something out of a New Year’s fairy tale:)

You can take any other threads you like.

The process consists of knitting three rows (Total:). The third row is the most capacious, but it is this that sets all its beauty and magic!

How to decorate snowflakes with beads

Decorating knitted snowflakes with beads or seed beads can be done in 3 ways.

Option #1

During the knitting process, the beads will play the role of lifting to the next row.

For example, below is a fragment of a description of a snowflake pattern with beads:

  1. Make 12 air loops and place them in the ring.
  2. Create an air loop, then draw 11 columns through the center without draping.
  3. Finish the row with a connecting loop, which needs to be pulled out longer than usual.
  4. Thread a pearl-colored bead onto the loop. Hook up the thread and make 1 chain stitch.

How to knit a snowflake with beads:

  1. Place the required amount of beads on the thread and make a ring.
  2. Make columns without draping, passing the thread between the beads.
  3. When knitting each new row, replace the air loops in the arches with the same amount of beads.

This method of decoration is considered one of the most reliable. The beads become part of the finished snowflake and the likelihood of losing the decoration is reduced to zero.

Option No. 2

The second way to decorate snowflakes with beads is to sew them to the product.

How to do it correctly:

  1. Choose a thread that matches the color of the product.
  2. Using a thin needle, place the required amount of beads on the thread and make a stitch.
  3. You need to insert the needle into the hole of the loop, making a connection behind it.

Methods of sewing on beads
If you need to add one small bead in certain places, then it is better to use the 3rd method.

Option #3

Individual beads can be glued with hot glue or Moment:

  1. A small drop of glue is applied to a certain area.
  2. The beads are carefully applied with tweezers.
  3. You need to fix the bead until the glue dries completely.

To glue beads to snowflakes, it is better to use Moment glue.
It is most convenient to start decorating snowflakes after starch treatment.

Blocking

To block, you need a dense surface made of porous material. We recommend laying polyethylene on the surface. Lay the wet product on the tablet, block it with safety pins, giving it a symmetrical shape.

Check the pins for rust. Never use old, deformed pins with signs of rust, they will ruin the snowflakes that you have been crocheting for so long. Leave the products to dry completely. Remove from tablet and iron.

It is not necessary to knit snowflakes with the thinnest crochet; if you plan to use them for room decoration, they can be knitted from acrylic or wool blend yarn. Crocheted snowflakes made from mohair threads look unusual, although the pattern is no longer so clearly visible. You can take simpler schemes.

How to use crocheted snowflakes for interior decoration and gifts

Our snowflakes are dry and ready to use; you need to make loops for them if you plan to hang the snowflakes on a Christmas tree, window, or make decorative panels:

Look at what night lights are made from crocheted snowflakes. We will need a jar, PVA glue and ice bulbs. You can also buy a short garland for the Christmas tree and put it in a jar. For a night light, there is no need to block snowflakes and it is not necessary to do an OBE either:

Crochet small snowflake for Christmas tree

To decorate the New Year tree, you can knit several simple but beautiful snowflakes according to the same pattern.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • You need to make the first loop with a knot.
  • Make 2 air loops through it.
  • Through the first ring you need to make 11 columns with a throw.
  • The ring is tightened, the columns are connected in a circle using an air loop. The base of the small snowflake is ready. Now we need to add some rays. They will resemble a star in shape. It is required to design 6 such ends in a similar way.

  • After connecting, 3 air loops are made.
  • Then the same amount is collected.
  • Now you need to go down to the last loop made in step 5 and insert a hook into it. This technique is called "pico". It is needed to create a small loop at the end of the beam.
  • After picot, 3 new air loops are cast on.
  • On a round base, one column is skipped and a hook is inserted. The beam and the circle are connected.
  • To complete knitting the ends of the snowflake, you need to repeat steps 5 to 9.

When 6 rays are ready, knitting is completed with a connecting column. A thread is passed through it again, a loop is pulled out, the length of which is enough to hang a snowflake on a tree branch. The loop is fixed with a knot, the excess thread is cut off. All that remains is to steam the product with an iron and the New Year’s decoration can be considered ready.

This work takes about 4 minutes. time. Therefore, you can quickly make several snowflakes at once to decorate a New Year’s tree with them, assemble a garland or sew them onto the edges of the tablecloth.

Crochet a snowflake, description for beginners

The Christmas decoration “Snowflake” is very easy to crochet. For this we need white cotton yarn 200 m thick by 50 g (I took mercerized cotton from Kamtex) and a hook size 1.5.
