What kind of cardboard is there?
Probably every person knows what cardboard looks like. Usually it represents a box in which something is packaged. This is the so-called waste cardboard. It comes in different thicknesses.
The thicker it is, the stronger the product will be. But such material is difficult to cut and glue. Therefore, it is better to make crafts with small elements from thinner material.
Cardboard is also made specifically for crafts. This is children's colored cardboard. There are quite a lot of varieties of such material. It can be coated, glossy, matte, metallized, with glitter. It is best to take a double-sided option.
Additional materials and tools
No craft is complete without additional materials. They should also be pre-selected. Determine in advance what you will make.
Materials and tools for crafts are always easy to find at office supply or craft stores. So you will probably need:
- Liquid PVA glue and glue stick;
- Scissors;
- Stationery knife;
- Ruler;
- Pencil;
- Scotch;
- Stapler;
- Colored paper;
- Paints.
DIY cardboard furniture: cloud-shaped shelf
You will need:
- several sheets of cardboard
- glue
- stationery knife
- pencil
- scissors.

1. Take one sheet of cardboard and draw a cloud on it. It is better to draw so that one side of the cardboard sheet serves as the bottom of the cloud (see image).
2. Cut out your cloud with scissors.
3. Use the cardboard cloud to make several more of the same blanks - trace it on each sheet and cut it out.
* In this example, 23 sheets of cardboard were used - 3 sheets will follow the shape of the cloud and 20 will be “inside” the cardboard structure and they have a similar structure, but they can save cardboard (see video).
4. Cut the unused cardboard into small pieces that need to be glued between the cloud pieces
5. Start gluing carefully and one by one all the parts of the shelf, not forgetting to glue pieces of cardboard between the parts (see picture).
6. To hang a shelf, you first need to attach one hook and one nail (see video) and hang the shelf on them.

Handy materials for crafts
Every home has some unnecessary craft supplies. You don't have to buy them at all. You probably buy something in stores.
Most things have packaging. You shouldn't throw it away. Better save it for crafts. Here is a list of what may be useful:
- Boxes for household appliances, shoes, cakes;
- Sleeves for rolled napkins and toilet paper;
- Paper cups for drinks, coffee and ice cream;
- Chocolate foil;
- Caps from plastic bottles;
- Packaging for gifts and bouquets.
Of course, this doesn't mean you can't throw anything away. Still, you shouldn't clutter your house. Do not leave dirty, torn or thin boxes.
House
Children love to build play houses, covering tables with blankets, matching chairs, barricading cozy corners with ottomans.
In these “fortresses” they create comfort and feel safe. Adults can take part in this exciting activity and help their child build a real home out of boxes.
What is needed for “construction”:
- large items from household appliances;
- stationery knife;
- glue or similar gun;
- scotch;
- paints and brushes.
The easiest way is to build a house without glue, just leave the frame and use its closing parts as a gate. Or assemble a rectangular square from the boxes, connecting the corners with tape if necessary.
Cover with a triangular roof and fill the side voids with appropriate pieces. Cut a hole for entry in one of the walls, and windows in the others.
The home is decorated inside and out for comfort and beauty, for example, with fabrics, garlands or painted. Pillows, blankets, rugs will complement the interior well.
You can build a castle for dolls in a similar way, just choose smaller packages. The interior decoration is also assembled from cardboard material.

When you go to the store for such goods, you need to know exactly what to buy. Therefore, decide in advance what you want to do. To do this, look at children's magazines and books, which often have a section with crafts.
