The reasons for this can be very different. Someone wants to save money. Someone had a spontaneous desire to organize a small hookah ceremony, but there was no hookah at hand.
Those who want to make a special, exclusive hookah for themselves stand apart. So is it possible to make a hookah yourself, at home from scrap materials? To answer this question, you need to understand what a hookah is and what requirements are placed on it. But in fact, there are not so many requirements for a hookah.
First of all, it must be airtight. Its main task is to cool and filter the smoke without changing its taste.
And this last condition is ignored in homemade hookahs, the designs of which are simply “teeming” on the Internet. The authors are proud to present us with devices that are functionally similar to a hookah. But you can just as easily smoke expensive tobacco or a dirty sock through them - because of the foreign tastes, it will be difficult to discern the difference.
And yet, it is very possible to make a simple and fully functional hookah at home. The main thing is attention to detail . Each element of a homemade hookah must meet certain requirements. However, let's go in order, namely from top to bottom.
The bowl is the simplest and most obvious part of a homemade hookah
There are many examples of self-made hookahs described on the Internet. And with the cup, inventors pervert, perhaps, in the strangest ways. They make it from a variety of things: from a sink strainer, from metal cans and even from gas burners. And those whose arms are straight enough are carved from wood or sculpted from clay (kosher).
But is it worth complicating everything so much, if you can always make a wonderful disposable bowl from an apple or orange, which will be much better than any of the above ? There is hardly anything else worth commenting on here.

Method 1. Hookah from a plastic bottle
Let's remember what components the hookah is made of. Usually this:

A flask is a container, usually made of glass, containing water that helps cool the smoke. A do-it-yourself hookah flask can be made from any container. Of course, we immediately remember an ordinary bottle.
How to make a hookah with your own hands from an ordinary plastic bottle? You will need to take:
First of all, you should make holes in the caps for the tube. After the lids are pressed together at the tops, the tube is threaded so that it ends up inside the bottle. A do-it-yourself hookah bowl is made from an apple. To do this, the top of the fruit is cut off and the core is removed. Afterwards, a recess is made at the base of the “bowl” the same size as the diameter of the small lid. You need to make small holes at the bottom with something thin and sharp. This will allow the smoke to flow well, but will not allow the tobacco to fall through. At the very end, a hole is made into which the hose will be inserted and the hookah at home is ready! All that remains is to pour water into the bottle, pour in tobacco, put foil on top, and add hot coal.

And most importantly, a good mine will never give an unpleasant aftertaste. What can you make or improvise a hookah shaft from at home? Most likely, you will have to be content with a metal tube. But is every tube suitable for us?
A metal tube can always surprise you with an unpleasant metallic taste, and therefore, if possible, you should choose a tube made of food grade stainless steel or aluminum .
And here the most ordinary food foil will help us a lot. Yes, yes, the same foil that every housewife and every hookah smoker has. It may seem soft, but wrap it around a pencil several times and you will be surprised at how dense and durable the tube becomes. Only the core for winding should be not a pencil, but something of a more suitable “caliber”.
How to properly hammer a hookah so that there is no bitterness
Often, smoking a hookah does not bring pleasure due to the appearance of unpleasant bitterness. It can arise for a number of reasons. Chief among them is poor equipment. Before use, you need to pay attention to the size of the bowl, the quality of the hose and many other details that can affect the final result.
In addition, you should properly care for the device, regularly rinse it under running water, and clean the shaft with a brush. With its help, you can easily remove soot and sediment, which gradually accumulate and give a characteristic bitterness.
Bitterness can also be caused by excessive heat directed at the tobacco. To correct the situation in this case, you just need to remove excess coals from the bowl, blow on the tobacco mixture and let it cool a little time.
The cause of the bitter aftertaste may be:
- lack of skills in smoking narghile;
- downtime of the device while smokers are relaxing;
- touching tobacco to foil;
- excessive heat;
- poorly washed device.
Flask
You don't have to worry too much about the flask. It doesn’t matter what kind of imagination nature has given you, and what grades you received in labor lessons at school. Whatever you decide to make a flask from: from a 5-liter “eggplant” or from a pumpkin and watermelon - everything will work out for you, and there is nothing to discuss here. The main thing is that it fits well into the interior, and you wouldn’t be ashamed to show it to your friends.
If you are making a flask from an eggplant, the one in the shape of a soccer ball will look exclusive. Pumpkin filled with its own juice half and half with water will give the smoke a pleasant flavor. True, this option is not suitable for all tobaccos. Well, if a three-liter bottle is used as a flask, be sure to make sure that it is made of Czech Bohemian glass, because the aesthetics of the hookah is paramount. =))))
How to make a hookah: step-by-step instructions

Step 2. Assembly
We make a hole in the lid from it - one for the hose and another, smaller one, directly opposite the first one - for the smoke to escape.
Now we insert the tube and rubber stopper, fasten the lid and stopper with powerful glue.
We close the jar. Attention: the tube must not touch the bottom.
We insert the hose into the hole made in the lid. Make sure everything fits together tightly.
Fill the jar with water so that the “mine” is slightly submerged in it (by 1.5-2 cm), attach the chilim to the rubber stopper. All that remains is to add tobacco, cover with foil, light the coal... and enjoy.
