Almost all girls love to play with dolls, especially Barbie. For children, such games become the first experience of family life; passions boil in dollhouses, toy people communicate, and everyday situations are played out. Games will not be realistic without an appropriate interior. The furnishings of Barbie's home should be as similar as possible to a real home. If adult women want to have unique things in their wardrobe, then their daughters just need original and beautiful Barbie furniture to be happy. If parents decide to make furniture for Barbie with their own hands and involve their child, then the baby will have an interesting pastime for the evening and new elements for play.

Selection of materials

Most often, furniture for Barbie's house is made of plywood or cardboard. The first material produces durable, strong, solid products, but working with it requires perseverance and time. In addition, special tools are needed.

But cardboard is almost always at hand; even a child can easily handle it. It is not as strong, but if you glue several layers together, you can create a durable table or chair. However, cardboard is inferior to plywood in aesthetics - if it is not decorated, the furniture will look dull and unattractive. What else might be suitable for making dollhouse furnishings:

  1. Matchboxes need decoration. Otherwise, they are very convenient, especially if you need a chest of drawers, a cabinet or other storage product.
  2. Plastic jars are also useful for educational purposes. Using their example, you can explain to your child the importance of caring for the environment and reusing raw materials. However, plastic requires a lot of attention - it is important to process all the edges as carefully as possible so that the baby does not cut himself.
  3. Wire is most often used for making accessories, but it can also be used to make furniture in general.
  4. Boxes - juice boxes, shoe boxes, egg boxes, any other boxes. They are usually easy to work with, as long as you glue enough layers together for strength.

If you don’t have anything at hand, and you need furniture urgently, you can make it out of paper (if you have colored paper, you won’t have to think about the decor). Of course, it makes fragile products, but this material is the easiest to work with. In addition, if you get tired of paper furniture, you can easily replace it with new one.

Plasticine or polymer clay can be used as an auxiliary material; interesting decorative elements can be made from them.

More complex products

A more complex model to manufacture is transformable furniture, namely a sofa bed for dolls. The instructions for the work are more complex, and the material used is completely different. This is necessary so that during the transformation process the product simply does not break.

Making a sofa from plywood

This sofa will become a real work of art. An analogue can be made from dishwashing sponges. Mom herself will make it. The main thing is to think about the method of transformation. It can be seen in models of real sofas.

You can also make other furniture elements to go with the sofa: poufs, armchairs. The principle of assembly and operation is the same as the main product. You can decorate an entire room for your baby doll.

Psychologists say that the way a child behaves in a game is how he will be in life. Do you dream that your little daughter will grow up to be a real woman with delicate taste, an excellent housewife and a caring mother? This means that her dolls should have all the best - beautiful clothes, dishes and a cozy room with elegant furniture. It is not at all necessary to spend crazy money on all this in branded stores. In fact, you can do a lot with your own hands - you just need to think carefully and try to do everything carefully. How to make a sofa for dolls? Read about this important matter in our article.

How to make a bedroom for dolls?

In a bedroom, even a doll's room, there is more than one sofa. There is a table, cabinets, and even a dressing table. And all this can be done from what lies in the apartment without any use and is even thrown away:

  • A cabinet with drawers is made from matchboxes stacked on top of each other and glued together.
  • As you can see, there are a lot of ideas. Therefore, all you have to do is choose the one that is more interesting for yourself and put it into practice. And as soon as your child gets tired of the interior of the doll house, you will already know other options to change it in a matter of days.

Nowadays you can buy almost everything in the store, even furniture for toy dolls. But it is worth noting that this approach is quite monotonous, but a do-it-yourself sofa for dolls is an original approach and individual execution.

In this case, your imagination is absolutely unlimited; you can do absolutely anything you want.

It is worth noting that there is a great variety of material for a doll sofa, and you don’t even have to buy most of it. You can even make a folding version that will double surprise your child. In addition, you can do this handicraft directly with him, because it perfectly develops fine motor skills and allows you to spend useful time with your child.

If you don’t know how to make a sofa for dolls, then use regular matchboxes. They have an amazingly comfortable shape, from which you can put together almost any model of room furniture. The finished sofa can be painted or covered with fabric, and it will look great. For this type, ten boxes will be enough, but you can of course make more massive furniture.

Making a sofa with your own hands is very simple. The process begins with the formation of the seat. Apply glue to the edges of the boxes and glue them together. After that we do the back. You shouldn’t make it very high, the box is still made of paper and may not withstand mechanical damage, without which no children’s game is complete. Next, the sofa for the dollhouse needs to be decorated, or better yet, covered with a beautiful fabric. Here everything depends on the imagination of the creator: bows, ruffles and other decorations will look very impressive on children's furniture.

Required tools and materials

The basic set of necessary tools includes:

  • stationery items (scissors, glue, ruler, pencils);
  • napkins;
  • cardboard;
  • oilcloth;
  • threads with needles.

The complete list depends on what kind of furniture you plan to make. Most items are easy to make from cardboard. But if you want the light to come on in the refrigerator when you open it, a blowtorch and LEDs with wires will come in handy. For upholstered furniture you will need to stock up on fabrics and filling.

The set of necessary materials also depends on who makes the furniture. If this is joint creativity with a child, it is better to start with basic things that are feasible for his age. And if you want to make a surprise and give a house furnished to the smallest detail, both special tools and any available material will be useful: a plane, a jigsaw, an awl, foil, fabric scraps, even ice cream sticks.

Children especially like furniture that replicates items in a real home. You can find identical fabrics and colors, make similar furnishings and decor.

Equipment box

Very interesting models of doll furniture can be made from cardboard cubes or parallelepipeds into which all kinds of electronics are packaged. By the way, often the box contains another wonderful material for a sofa - polystyrene foam. But first, let's look at the box:

  1. Open it and take out all the contents.
  2. Do not cut off the lid - on one open side you need to make a semicircular cutout in it, then the bottom will become the seat, and the lid and side walls will become the back and armrests.
  3. Glue a piece of thin foam rubber or padding polyester to the bottom.
  4. Also fill the space near the side and rear walls with foam rubber or padding polyester - you can attach the gasket to the walls with a few drops of glue.
  5. Cover the sofa on all sides with fabric.

Important! For such a design, of course, you need legs - cubes from a dismantled construction kit, barrels from a lotto. Even toothpaste tube caps will work if the box is small.

Step-by-step master class

Not everyone has experience making Barbie furniture with their own hands. For such cases, ready-made drawings and master classes will be useful. It is important to focus on descriptions as well as images of the process.

Matchbox chest of drawers

The easiest way is to make a chest of drawers from items in which something was originally stored. Matchboxes are the right size for this. To make furniture from them, you will need:

  1. Remove the grater used to light matches and paint the boxes. Let them dry.
  2. Fasten the boxes together with glue.
  3. For greater strength, the final structure can be wrapped with tape.
  4. Make handles from buttons or soft wire.

If you don’t want to use paint, you can cover the boxes with colored paper or fabric.

Cardboard sofa

Not a single dollhouse would be complete without a sofa. To decorate cardboard, you can use fabric and braid. To make this furniture you need:

  1. Cut out the parts of the back and bottom of the sofa (if the cardboard is thin, it is better to glue several layers together).
  2. Cut out the same parts from foam rubber.
  3. Fasten the cardboard and foam parts to each other - the back and the bottom separately.
  4. Cover the resulting parts with fabric - the seams can be treated with a glue gun, then covered with braid.
  5. In the same way, prepare the armrests and the base (a quadrangle of two longitudinal and two transverse cardboard blocks). Foam rubber is not required for the base.
  6. Glue all the parts together.

For greater strength, the armrests and base can be made of plywood, fastening the parts with self-tapping screws.

Soft chair

A chair is a rather difficult item to make. Thick cardboard is useful for the product. The best option is to use a box from household appliances. Its material is smooth on the outside, making it easy to assemble, and the corrugated middle adds strength.

Options for arranging furniture for a children's room for two children

Decor and filling will reduce the usable area of the chair, so it’s worth initially making it a little larger than required. Execution sequence:

  1. On cardboard you need to schematically draw the back, seat and handles. Each part is needed in such quantity that when gluing together you get a part of the chair 0.5–1 cm thick for the back, and 4–5 cm thick for the seat.
  2. The parts are cut out and glued together layer by layer so that you get one back, one seat and two armrests.
  3. The resulting elements are covered with fabric and stuffed with filler (sintepon or cotton wool).

If necessary, the resulting chair can be trimmed with a stationery knife to avoid any roughness.

Plywood bed

For a plywood bed you will need stencils, a jigsaw, thin sandpaper, and, if desired, paint or other materials for decoration. Before printing the diagrams, it is important to check that the dimensions match the doll's parameters. Sequence of steps:

  1. Place the stencil on the plywood and trace it with a pencil.
  2. Cut out the outlined parts with a jigsaw.
  3. Sand the parts of the future bed with sandpaper.
  4. Paint and dry the parts.
  5. Assemble the structure.

For convenience, it is better to do the decor before final assembly. Individual elements are easier to decorate.

Cardboard bed

We will need:

  • corrugated cardboard;
  • self-adhesive paper for finishing;
  • scissors;
  • stationery knife;
  • glue;
  • fabric for pastel accessories;
  • cotton wool;
  • metal wire.

Cut out parts from cardboard using a pattern. We bring to your attention several options for patterns:

In order for our bed to be strong and stable, we need to make several such parts, glue them together, and it is also recommended to fasten them with metal wire.

You can leave it in this form, but it is better to cover it with a self-adhesive film of a suitable color, sew a mattress and pillows from the fabric, filling them with cotton wool or any other filler, and don’t forget about pastel linen.

You can also make a bed with soft walls; for this you just need to cover it with synthetic padding and fabric.

Decorating ideas

Like an ordinary house, a dollhouse can be decorated endlessly - adding new details, updating dishes or textiles, moving furniture. Moreover, accessories are easy to create from scrap materials:

  1. Pillows are stuffed with padding polyester, just like upholstered furniture.
  2. Buttons are useful not only for the handles of chests of drawers or bedside tables, but also for decorating pillowcases, blankets, and other textiles.
  3. Plastic corks can be used to make ottomans, and wine corks can be used under tables and armchairs.
  4. Straws and toothpicks are suitable for slats - both frame and external, and they also make a good base for floor lamps.
  5. Fabrics add the most comfort. You can change bedding, update curtains for the season, or even recreate different styles, from country to classic.
  6. Wallpaper can also be made from scraps of fabric or pasted over the walls with decorative tape (the size of the pattern on it is more suitable in proportion to a doll's house).
  7. Foil will make a mirror in a dressing table or closet.
  8. You can even use chocolate egg containers or shoe covers - they make great pans and pots.

When choosing decor material, you need to take into account the age of the child. For example, beads, like any other small parts, should only be used with children over 5 years old. Paints must be safe, as well as varnish.

Despite the huge range of products for dolls, hand-made items still remain unrivaled. Accessories and furniture made of cardboard, plywood or plain paper help develop a child’s imagination; they have more warmth than factory-made ones. In addition, it is not necessary to settle on complex models - assembling a chest of drawers from matchboxes will take no more than half an hour (including drying), and an ottoman made from cork, despite its simplicity, will look better than a factory one.

Dimensions of children's wardrobes, main types of furniture

However, if you wish, you can take advantage of master classes for professionals - they tell in detail how to make furniture for Barbie that looks like it came out of a designer’s workshop. Everything goes into use, from used plastic containers to specialized tools. A little effort - and the decor of the house will be the envy of any furniture department of designer toys. Such items will be completely exclusive, which will also delight children.

The simplest doll sofa

How to make a sofa for a doll if the daughter is small and the doll is big? The easiest way to make a sofa is from two wooden children's chairs. They should be the same in height, but lower than your child’s height requirement. After all, this is doll furniture, although sometimes a little housewife can use it.

In addition to chairs, you need:

  • 2 slats 50-60 cm long;
  • 2 pieces of plywood for the sides;
  • a piece of thick foam for the seat and back;
  • thick fabric for upholstery;
  • screws or screws;
  • screwdriver;
  • sewing supplies.

Important! Before you make a sofa for dolls with your own hands, the chairs must be fastened with slats from the bottom, and the sides must be attached on both sides. As for the sizes, they are largely arbitrary - the sides should be lower than the back, that's all. It is enough if they rise ten centimeters above the seat.

Connecting the chairs:

  1. On the lower parts of the chairs, mark places for fastenings.
  2. Mark the slats in the same way.
  3. Drill holes - on the slats they will be through, on the chairs - of sufficient depth.
  4. Screw the slats using any fasteners that you have on hand - to be sure, you can put screws or self-tapping screws on glue.

Sidewalls

The sides are simply two sheets of plywood that cover the space under the chairs and extend slightly above the seats. The only thing you need to take care of is that the front corners are cut off. The easiest way to do this is with a jigsaw.

Important! By the way, if you know a little about this tool, nothing prevents you from making carved armrests - then they will not need to be covered with upholstery. The saw cuts must be thoroughly sanded so that the child does not have the slightest chance of planting a splinter. A great idea is to varnish these parts.

You can make a doll sofa with your own hands without wooden armrests. For example, you can complement the design with foam rollers, which are placed on the sofa when necessary, but can also be used for other purposes.

DIY sofa for dolls - master class continues

Sometimes young mothers ask the question of how to sew a sofa for dolls. It is not the sofa itself that is sewn, but only its soft parts, and approximately the same for small furniture and for large ones.

Sofa upholstery

Cut 2 pieces of thick foam to fit the seat and back. You can deal with them in two ways:

  • glue it to the chairs, and then cover everything together with fabric;
  • first make 2 identical mattresses, one - put on the back, the second - on the seat.

The use of one method or another depends on the shape of the chairs. Some children's high chairs have backrests that curve back and the front edge of the seat curves down. In this case, the first option is preferable. In all other situations, the second one is more interesting, since it turns out to be something like modular furniture, when removable parts are used for a variety of purposes.

Important! First you need to stick the foam on the back, then on the seat.

We sew mattresses

An old curtain or an unnecessary bedspread is quite suitable for mattresses. You can cut directly on the fabric, but if you are not very confident in yourself, make patterns from graph paper.

For each mattress you need:

  • 2 rectangles equal in length and width to the seat or back of the sofa, plus 1 cm allowances on each side;
  • strip - its length is equal to the perimeter of the mattress, and its width is the thickness of the foam rubber, plus allowances of 1 cm on all sides; it can be cut on the bias.

Important! To make the mattress look exactly like a real one, you can sew a roll between the strip and the main parts - it is sold ready-made in craft stores. For each mattress you need 2 pieces, the length of which is equal to the perimeter.

When manufacturing, it is important to adhere to a certain procedure:

  • Mark on the strip the places of the corners of the future mattress - it is better to do this on both long sides.
  • Iron the corners by folding the strip right side out.
  • With the strip and one of the rectangles right sides facing each other, baste the pieces, leaving one short side open.

Important! If a roller is intended, it must be inserted between the parts with a rope on the front side.

  • Sew the details on three sides.
  • Cut the corners diagonally very close to the seam.
  • Attach a second rectangle to the strip in the same way.
  • Cut corners.
  • Turn the workpiece inside out.
  • Insert the foam and seal the open edge by hand.

If the chairs are sloping

Upholstering a sofa with glued foam rubber is not a difficult task, but it requires some skill in working with a hammer and wallpaper nails:

  1. First, cut out a rectangle. The width is easy to determine - it is equal to the width of the chairs, plus allowances of 3 cm on each side.
  2. As for the length, things are a little more interesting here. The cloth should completely cover the space under the chair, the seat, the back and the back, plus, again, allowances - but they can be smaller, 2 cm will be enough.
  3. Iron the allowances that will be adjacent to the sides to the wrong side.
  4. Allowances on the front and back sides - hem, folding twice to the wrong side, and iron.
  5. Nail the panel to the seat and back at a distance of 2-3 cm from the sides, with a step between wallpaper nails of 5-7 cm.
  6. Nail the panel also to the top of the back and bottom of the seat.

What materials are they made from?

You can make your own furniture for a dollhouse from various materials. Often used for such crafts:

  • plywood is a durable material that is well suited for making most furniture in a dollhouse, but requires a little experience working with wood;
  • matchboxes - due to their shape in the form of tiles, they are ideal for making some interior items, such as a desk, sofa, armchair;
  • cardboard is a readily available material from which all elements can be made, but cardboard furniture has insufficient strength and a short service life;
  • plasticine - most often used as an auxiliary material, which is needed for the manufacture of small elements (locker handles, decor on furniture);
  • fabric - used for additional details (bed linen, tablecloth), the manufacture of interior elements consisting of soft materials (curtains, carpet);
  • wood is a material from which you can make high-quality and beautiful furniture for a dollhouse, but the work will require a high level of proficiency in woodworking tools and some experience.

You can make furniture for a dollhouse with your own hands from any available items and materials, everything is limited by your imagination and the skills of the craftsman.

Tips for planning and filling a house

Most dollhouses have the following rooms:

  • living room;
  • bathroom;
  • kitchen;
  • bedroom;
  • children's room.

In order for the rooms not to look empty, they need to be filled with basic interior items. If necessary, rooms are complemented with small decorative elements - mirrors, curtains, pillows, flower pots. A sofa, one or more bedside tables, armchairs, a miniature coffee table and a TV must be installed in the living room; lamps are also often installed.

The kitchen must have a set, stove, refrigerator, dining table and several chairs. The bedroom is equipped with a bed, a wardrobe, bedside tables, and a large mirror for dolls. The bathroom requires a toilet, sink, mirror, and shower. The filling of a children's room depends on the age of the baby doll. Typically, such a room contains a cradle or a miniature bed, toys, chairs and a desk.
