How to weave an owl from rubber bands on a slingshot

Weaving from rubber bands is gaining more and more popularity every day among handicraft lovers of all ages. Using this weaving technique, you can create many interesting and beautiful figurines, toys, home decorations, and accessories.

One of the most interesting and original decorations is a figurine of an owl. Since this bird is a symbol of wisdom, it conquers the hearts of millions and encourages handicraft lovers to create its image.

Before you start making an owl, you need to decide how you will do it. You can weave it in the following ways:

  • using a slingshot;
  • on hook;
  • on the machine.

Bird on the machine

The simplest and most popular is the method of weaving an owl on a machine. For weaving, choose bright elastic bands of different colors.

You can make the bird in more natural shades: gray-white or brown-white, or use your imagination and choose unusual combinations, for example, pink and blue, or light green and yellow.

To work, install the machine so that the central row is shifted forward by one column. Place one iris on the outer rows on the last couple of posts and a pair of elastic bands on the second and third pins of the center line. From the third column, put a pair of elastic bands on the outer rows (penultimate pin).

Place two more pairs on each row. Place the next pair of elastic bands of a different color on the center line (on the outermost occupied column and the next empty one). Throw elastic bands of the main color from the outer posts onto the last central pin. Then we throw the elastic bands from the central last column onto the first empty rods of the machine after weaving.

Next, we put 4 pairs of elastic bands on the line in the middle. If you want the bird's belly to be different, add elastic bands of the desired color. At this time, on the outer rows we throw on three pairs of irises of the color you want.

Place an elastic band of the desired color on the hook and twist three turns. Then remove it from the torso elastic and slide this elastic from the last occupied pin of the center line to the outer one. Make the second leg in the same way and place it on the adjacent side. Place an elastic band on the last pin of the row in the middle, twisting it three times.

To make eyes for our bird, screw the elastic bands 4 turns onto the outer pins at the top where we started weaving. Drape the iris of the main color in a triangle over the eyes, and then crochet the black elastic bands over this figure. We start weaving from the bottom up. To do this, grab the bottom elastic bands with a hook and put them on the posts to which they belong.

You will need: rubber bands of 7 colors, a machine, a hook.

Master Class

  1. Remove the center row of the machine and install it so that the holes face to the right.
  2. Place pairs of yellow elastic bands on the next row.
  3. Weave them, then weave the first row according to the pattern, throwing yellow elastic bands vertically.
  4. Throw off the bottom row completely, throw several transparent elastic bands horizontally, hooking them onto 4 columns.
  5. Hook the yellow elastic bands vertically according to the pattern.
  6. Hook the blue elastic bands onto the second and tenth posts, these will be the tips of the ears.
  7. Remove the clear elastic bands and the entire bottom layer.
  8. Hook the clear elastic bands again horizontally.
  9. Wear yellow and blue elastic bands vertically according to the pattern.
  10. Throw off the horizontal layer, then the vertical and the last one.
  11. Continue weaving in the same way according to this pattern.
  12. Finally, transfer the elastic from the top row to the bottom row.
  13. Knit a row with a chain, make a loop, remove the fresco and straighten it.

The “Owl” fresco made from rubber bands is ready! I recommend watching the video master class!

We weave on a slingshot

You can also weave a cute owl on a slingshot. And if you make a couple, it will become a beautiful gift for someone dear to you.

For weaving on a slingshot, take 44 irises of the main color (in our case, red). As stated above, you can take irises of any shade. You will need 8 rubber bands for the owl's belly and 4 more irises of a different color for the nose and paws, 2 black ones for the eyes.

We prepare a diagram of the owl’s body on the table and begin weaving.

We put on a brown elastic band, twisting it three times on any post, then we put on a couple more irises and throw off the bottom one.

We throw the elastic bands over to the left side, and on the right side we twist the elastic band into 4 turns of the color you chose for the leg. In our case, orange.

Throw on a couple of rubber bands.

We remove the turns and 4 lower elastic bands from the left column in the center so that the turns are on the right side. Next, put on a couple more elastic bands and remove the bottom layer.

We also do it two more times and move the elastic band this time to the right column.

We turn the hook into turns and throw them on the left side of the slingshot. Throw on a couple of white elastic bands.

We reset the speed to the center.

We also weave the next row, throwing on two white elastic bands.

Similarly we weave 2 more rows of elastic bands.

We transfer it again to the right side, and place the turns on the left column.

Throw on a couple of irises of the main color and throw off the twisted elastic band.

We throw everything over to the right side, and on the left we wind it four turns using one orange elastic band.

We put on 2 elastic bands of the main color and drop the bottom ones from the left column to the center and remove the two bottom pairs from the right column so that the orange elastic band is on the left side.

We weave three rows, throwing on and throwing off a couple of elastic bands.

For the next fourth pair we will remove all the irises.

On the table we make a pattern for weaving the head, as shown in the photo.

Similarly, we put on and take off a pair of elastic bands of the main color. We do this twice.

Transfer to the right side.

Let's twist the black elastic band 4 times on the left column.

We throw on a couple of rubber bands and reduce the speed, and from the right side we remove the two lower pairs so that the black rubber band is on the left side.

Using a well-known pattern, we weave another layer of elastic bands and transfer it to the right side of the slingshot.

We insert the hook into the elastic band with which weaving of the head began, put on a pair of orange elastic bands and pass them through the elastic band. Place the second loop on the hook.

We transfer everything to the left pin.

We weave another layer and transfer it again to the right column.

We repeat all the shenanigans with the hook again.

Throw on a couple of elastic bands, throw off 4 elastic bands on the left side.

We transfer the top pair of elastic bands from the right column to the left one and wind the black elastic band on the first one 4 turns.

We put on a couple more elastic bands and lower the turns to the center, from the left side we throw off the elastic bands in such a way that the black one is on the right.

Weave one layer.

We put on one iris and throw all the elastic bands on it.

We transfer everything to the left column. Throw the elastic band below into the center and tighten the formed loop.

We insert the hook into the top loop of the head and pull one red iris through this elastic band.

We form a loop.

We do the same on the opposite side.

Let's cut off about half of this elastic band.

So our owl figurine is ready. You can use it as a keychain by hooking it onto a carabiner and hanging it on your bag or backpack. Or leave it as a decoration for your room.
